We are delighted to announce Jo Lloyd as the Lucy Guerin Inc Resident Director for 2016.
Jo Lloyd has been involved in the Company for many years. She was curated as part of the first edition of Pieces for Small Spaces in 2015, was a studio resident in 2013 and in the past year, in addition to teaching our dance classes, Jo has also been our resident yoga teacher on Friday mornings, providing a dynamic yoga class for the Company dancers and other dancers within our community.
Jo says of her appointment:
“I have great respect for LGI; Lucy’s work and the exceptional role the company plays in the community. I am thrilled to be Resident Director for 2016. I look forward to engaging with the company on all levels, gaining new perspectives to expand practice around the questions; what else can this form do and how can it continue to function best?”
Since 2013 Lucy Guerin Inc has invited one choreographer each year to take up the position of Resident Director with the Company. Alumni Resident Directors include; Stephanie Lake, Anthony Hamilton and Melanie Lane.
The Company identified a need within the Australian dance sector to create a pathway for independent choreographers to transition into significant leadership roles. This position was created for choreographers approaching mid-career who are interested in running a company or developing a way of working more consistently than their current project funding allows. The Resident Director is encouraged to research what kind of model might be appropriate to support the type of work they are creating. This may include running a company and this position encourages a dialogue around sustainable artistic practice as a choreographer.
We are very excited to see what 2016 brings for our Resident Director program and look forward to having Jo in the studio throughout the year.
