Celebrated dancer and choreographer based in Switzerland, Cindy Van Acker, joins us this November to lead our latest HOTBED workshop.

Led by invited local and international choreographers, HOTBED workshops seek to bring current contemporary dance thinking and practice to the local dance community.

Over five days at WXYZ Studios, Cindy and her dancers will lead selected participants through key experiences drawn from the process of creating and performing her Solos, presented by Dancehouse with Pro Helvetia as a part of their program, swiss.style (1–10 November).

HOTBED participants will also be invited to take LGI Morning Class during the workshop week free-of-charge.^

“For example, to experience putting all our attention on how a sound hits us, what it triggers, where it echoes. To actively observe how we can receive the music as a receptacle and then emit in our turn.” (Cindy Van Acker).

About Cindy Van Acker:

The choreographic creations of Cindy Van Acker combine aesthetic sobriety, minimalist movement, meticulous composition and electronic music to examine, with an almost scientific thoroughness, the connections between the body and the soul, sound and rhythm.

Cindy Van Acker danced at the Royal Ballet of Flanders and the Grand Théâtre de Genève before founding Cie Greffe in 2002. She has since created around 20 projects, including Anechoic, a piece for 53 dancers (2014), the solo Helder (2013), the group pieces Zaoum (2016) and Speechless Voices (2018).
