About Deanne Butterworth’s LGI Residency
For her LGI residency, Deanne will be joined in the studio by dancers Kara Burdack, Ben Hurley, and Michaela Ottone to undertake the first development for a new work which will continue throughout the second part of 2019.
Working with a series of repetitive rhythms, counts and movements, Deanne will use an existing short work to expand it further into a group piece for five dancers. This work is influenced by the Erik Satie piece Curtain of a Voting Booth.

About Deanne Butterworth
Deanne Butterworth is a highly acclaimed Melbourne based dancer and choreographer. Her interests lie in the transfer of information and ideas from one body to another, the creation of energies, systems, languages and understanding developed in isolation and within groups of people. Her work is often responsive to the space in which it is shown and can involve still images, sound, music, text and video.Her works have taken place in a variety of settings including traditional performance spaces as well as galleries and outdoors.
Deanne’s work has been shown for Next Wave Festival, NGV Melbourne Now, Dancehouse, Lucy Guerin Inc.’s Pieces for Small Spaces, Melbourne Fringe, Dance New Amsterdam (NYC), Hong Kong Fringe (with Jo Lloyd), PAF France, West Space and more. She has worked with Phillip Adams, Tim Darbyshire, Rebecca Jensen, Shelley Lasica, Shian Law, Jo Lloyd, Sandra Parker, Brooke Stamp and others.
Throughout 2017-2019, Deanne is a studio artist at Gertrude Contemporary, Melbourne.
