During my Make a Start residency, I’ll be focusing on creating the second movement of Fractured Echoes—a multi-disciplinary solo work exploring identity fragmentation in the digital age. This section of the piece dives into the curated self: the version we construct for visibility and validation. It’s a state of self-conscious performance, influenced by surveillance, expectation, and digital persona.
Alongside developing choreography, I’ll be working closely with composer Sooji Kim and sound producer Oscar Poncell to solidify the musical composition for this section. Our aim is to shape a sonic landscape that mirrors the psychological texture of this ‘curated’ identity—blending violin, synth, and voice to create rhythmic tension, glitch aesthetics, and spatial sound dislocation. The music will be used not only as a score, but as a choreographic partner.
In the final week of the residency, I’ll begin liaising with my lighting designer to initiate early design discussions around light and projection. Together we’ll explore how light might fracture or distort the performer’s image—echoing the thematic split between perception and reality. Fractured Echoes invites the audience to become voyeurs, challenging how we watch and how we are watched.
