Special LGI Morning Class: Body Percussion & Randai Masterclass w/ Suara Dance

Join Alfira O’Sullivan and Murtala from Suara Dance for an immersive masterclass exploring communal dance practices from Aceh and West Sumatra. Through shared movement, this class fosters a deep sense of connection and belonging.

Experience the rhythmic intricacy of Ratoh Duek—a seated body percussion dance featuring clapping, upper-body percussion, and traditional songs—followed by Randai, where rhythm, sound, and martial arts blend through the dynamic use of Galembong pants.

Fresh from the world premiere of Bunyi Bunyi Bumi at Asia TOPA, Alfira and Murtala will also share insights into their artistic journey from Indonesia to Australia.

This class may include drumming, sitting on your knees, body percussion, vocals, learning specific rhythmic patterns and is suitable for both trained and untrained dancers, however dancers should be able to sit on their knees. We recommend bringing knee pads, yoga mats will be provided.
