Class today is Contemporary Dance w/ Geoffrey Watson

Geoffrey’s class will focus on exploring contemporary dance technique and choreographic interpretation through imagery, hypersensitivity and play. We will experiment with techniques of performance quality with the same rigour as we approach functional physical technique, dancing for both the internalised and externalised experience. Class will include a guided warmup, leading into short exercises designed to orient our bodies for the day. The bulk of the class will involve learning, dissecting and performing choreographic sequences.

This class is suitable for people with a basis in forms of dance that include the retention and repetition of choreographic sequences. This class may be suitable for those looking to develop their skills in picking up choreography on the spot. This class may include body contact, high energy sequences, and lengthy choreographic sequences.

Geoffrey Watson is a performer, choreographer, design and visual artist who works mainly within contemporary and experimental dance. Through his practice, Geoffrey attempts to develop bridges to nowhere from the starting points of historical technique/craft, arte povera ingenuity, personal fantasy and queer screwballing.

Geoffrey has performed for artists and companies including Lucy Guerin Inc, Nana Biluš Abaffy, Phillip Adams, Alisdair Macindoe, Lee Serle and Gekidan Kaitaisha. His choreographed/produced performances include Camel (2016), DISTRACTION: T.C. Speaks! (2017), Geoffrey’s Corpse (2019), Rachael Wisby (2019) and It Happens to me Every Summer (2021).
