Class today is Contemporary Dance with Siobhan McKenna
Class Description:
Siobhan’s class focuses on awakening and stretching the mind and body’s attention in preparation for dancing solo and with others. She has a fascination with rhythm and layering along with sequential movement pathways that travel and move in and out of the floor. Class will include a guided warm up, tools for challenging coordination and building awareness, improvisation, and set movement phrases.
This class is suitable for tertiary students and current/previous professionals.
About Siobhan:
Siobhan is a Melbourne/Naarm based dance artist, graduating from the Victorian College of the Arts in 2016. Siobhan’s experience in dance spans working as a collaborating performer, choreographer, rehearsal director and both teacher or participant in various workshops, classes and residency programs.
Recently Siobhan has been working as a dancer with Joel Bray Dance on a 2026 national tour of his work ‘Garabari’. Siobhan has also worked with Joel Bray as a rehearsal director/ assistant choreographer for his work ‘Monolith’ presented in Rising Festival in 2025. Siobhan’s choreographic work and practice has been supported by organisations and venues such as Sydney Dance Company, Dancehouse, Temperance Hall, Lucy Guerin Inc., The Substation, Dance Massive, Darebin Arts, The Gunpowder Trading Post and Critical Path, Australian Dance Theatre and the Tanja Liedtke Foundation and ImplusTanz (Vienna). Both her works ‘Utterance’ and ‘Rhythmic Fictions’ were nominated for Best Choreography in the 2019 and 2022 Green Room Awards and ‘Utterance’ also received the Melbourne Fringe Festival’s 2017 Best Dance Award and Temperance Hall Award. In 2022, Siobhan was incredibly grateful to receive a fellowship from the late Chloe Munro AO and Lucy Guerin Inc, and in 2024 Siobhan was accepted into the ATLAS scholarship program, with mentor Angélique Willkie at ImpulsTanz in Vienna.
