This is a two day workshop. Attendance at both days is required in order to participate.

HOTBED Workshop w/ Jo Lloyd

10am – 4pm (with 1hr lunch break)
Live/in person at WXYZ Studios

Two consecutive days of continuous dancing, pausing occasionally for a conference.
Trialling and finding alternative means available to recall, revisit, and collect the dance.
Gaining information from how others read your dance, in order to understand and find vocabularies.
Entertaining ‘surrealisation’ and working with spontaneity to erase doubt.
What do we need to know in order to do/ perform the dance?
Distracted by imagining—exploiting distraction as a driver for the dance, working with simultaneity and sustaining single focus.
How do you form the unresolved dance?

This workshop is suited to dancers with some training/experience—including recent graduates, current students, trained dancers.

About Jo

Jo Lloyd is a dance artist working with choreography as a social encounter, revealing behaviour over various durations and contexts. A graduate of the VCA, Jo has presented work in Japan, Hong Kong, New Zealand, Dance Massive, Liveworks, Mona Foma and the MCA. Recent works include; Archive the archive for the NGA, OVERTURE at Arts House, Melbourne Festival 2019, DOUBLE DOUBLE with Deanne Butterworth, Tina Havelock Stevens and Evelyn Morris, CUTOUT at ACCA and Confusion for Three (Arts House and PICA). Jo has worked extensively with Choreographers Shelley Lasica, Sandra Parker and Gideon Obarzanek, and collaborated with; Stephen Bram, David Rosetzky, Shian Law, Alicia Frankovich, Nicola Gunn, Speak Percussion and Liza Lim, Ranters Theatre and Back to Back Theatre. Jo has taught extensively in Australia and overseas for Lucy Geurin Inc., Chunky Move, VCA, Bangarra, ADT, Tasdance, Dancenorth, Akram Khan Company, Jacobs Pillow and the Hong Kong Academy of Performing Arts. In 2016 Jo was Resident Director of Lucy Guerin Inc. She is a resident artist at The Substation.
