In this two-day workshop, Israel Aloni will share elements from their trans-disciplinary practice, The I.Aloni Experience.

The I.Aloni Experience is a multidimensional practice which employs knowledge of movement, psychology and philosophy as means for dance making/doing that corresponds to the human, the person and the citizen.

The practice also explores modes of experiencing the world through corporeal consciousness—with methodologies for experimentation with both the infinite body and the subjective agent.

During this workshop the participants will get to finesse their curiosities and questions about the physical body and its utterances, and enhance their expertise in manipulating reality–in the context of performance–by noticing and repurposing the authoring voice of what is perceived as their (the dancer’s) body. The practice refers both to the collective and the singular spheres.

Suitable for trained dancers.

Saturday 26 & Sunday 27 November
10am – 4pm
$80
Please note: attendance at both days of the workshop is required in order to participate.

About Israel

Israel Aloni is an independent choreographer, educator, performer, writer and provocateur.

Aloni’s work often addresses social-political topics and masterfully converses with the public discourse, including HERE THERE YET NOWHERE from the international co-production GODLIKE (2016) where Aloni interrogated the impact of fanaticism on sanity, #GHETTO (2017) where they addressed the distractive effect of labels and tags on compassion and solidarity, and My Body My Nation (2019) where Aloni attempts to decolonise their own non-white, nonbinary and non-conforming physical Body.

Both in their artistic practice and the ways in which they initiate and manage international projects, Aloni promotes dimensions of chaotic harmonies and harmonious chaos, namely through non-hierarchical and dynamic flows as opposed to stagnant and rigid structures which threaten our liberty and safety.

As a performer for more than two decades, Aloni created and performed a vast repertoire of many globally acclaimed choreographers such as Sasha Waltz, Mats Ek, Wim Vadekaybus and Club Guy And Roni to name a few.

Aloni has been company member with GöteborgsOperans Danskompani (for 17 years), Sasha Waltz & Guests, Kibbutz Contemporary Dance Company, Israel Ballet, The Project of the Tel Aviv Opera House and Odelya Kuperberg Dance Group as well as performed in numerous independently produced projects.

Currently, Aloni is the Artistic Director and Co-Founder of ilDance, an independent contemporary dance organisation based in Gothenburg, Sweden; the architect and international project manager of International Contemporary Dance Collective (iCoDaCo) which was co-founded by the Creative Europe programme of the European Union. Aloni is also the Artistic Director of COMPASS which is an infrastructure for the support of both making and presentation contemporary dance by emerging artists across Sweden. In 2022-2023 Aloni is one of the mentors in the mentorship program of Nordic Culture Point and since June 2022 they are members of the advisory committee of IETM - International Network for Contemporary Performing Arts.
